Frontierland

Frontierland is designed to bring guests back in time to the early American frontier of the 19th century. Guests are encouraged to live out their old west dreams and run around pretending to be cowboys or pioneers and live through a gold rush era town.

Frontierland itself opened with a limited amount of attractions, it mainly consisted of a shooting gallery, wagons and the Mark Twain Riverboat that took you around the Rivers of America towards the edge of the land. The Mark Twain is the only attraction from opening day still exists in Frontierland. Over the years Frontierland has had many attractions and dinning options come and go, having only one true thrill ride.

Perhaps what has gone on to be the most iconic part of Frontierland is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Opening up in 1979, Big Thunder is one of the few roller coasters you can find inside of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. The ride is fashioned after an old mine train that takes you zooming through the mountains during the Gold Rush period. Among things you encounter on the ride is the beloved mountain goat chewing on a stick of dynamite before you quickly round a corner and drop down. A fun little trick that guests have paassed down over the years is that if you maintain eye contact with the goat as you're dropping you feel a more intense rush than if you just maintained looking straight ahead.
