Australian Habitats

Quokkas are native to Southwest Australia and are considered vulnerable under the IUCN criteria. Quokkas are largely nocturnal animals, so they sleep during the day. Their favorite place to do so is in the Acanthocarpus bush. These bushes are the perfect hiding spot for quokkas because other animals don't like how prickly it is.

More About Quokkas

Quokkas thrive in coastal regions and islands, where they seek shelter in dense vegetation to stay safe from predators. They prefer environments with abundant undergrowth and access to fresh greenery for food. Being herbivores, they feed on grasses, leaves, and stems, particularly in the cooler hours of the evening. Rottnest Island and nearby areas provide the ideal combination of food sources and protective cover that quokkas need for survival. Their ability to find refuge in spiky plants helps them avoid danger and endure in the wild.
