Water Protections

Mark West Creek is safeguarded by local and regional efforts, including the Mark West Creek Regional Park and Open Space Preserve and collaborations among agencies such as Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Sonoma Water. In 2014, Mark West Creek was named one of five priority stream systems selected by the California Water Action Plan effort. The creek is considered a high-priority stream for preservation because of its steelhead trout population and spawning habitat for coho salmon. Specifically, the creek supports threatened and endangered salmonid species, including the Central California Coast Coho Salmon and steelhead.
