Fukuoka
Fukuoka is located on the southern coast of Hakata Bay. The origin of Fukuoka is in 1281 The Hakata Bay was hit by a storm called the kamikaze. The wind scattered and sank a large fleet of Mongols and saved Japan. The new port of Fukuoka is currently a cultural center. Fukuoka has a population of about 1.65 million people.
Kagoshima
Kagoshima is located in southern Kyushu. Kagoshima has a population of about 600,000 people. Sakura island, a neighboring island, was an island until an eruption in 1914. Kagoshima is the cultural and transportal center of southern Kyushu.
Nagasaki
Nagasaki is located in western Kyushu. The population of Nagasaki is about 400,000 people. Nagasaki was Japan’s second oldest port open to foreign trade. On August 9, 1945, Nagasaki was bombed by the US. Between 60,000 and 80,000 people were killed. Since the bombing the city has been rebuilt and became a significant spiritual center.
