The giant golden-crowned flying fox is endemic to the Philippines. It is a forest specialist, preferring areas untouched by human habitation. These bats rely heavily on riparian zones near rivers, where fig trees—its primary food source—are abundant.

Conservation Concerns

Due to deforestation, its natural habitat has been reduced drastically. Less than 10% of the original lowland forest cover remains, and conservation efforts continue to be crucial.
