Managing Time

Emerging from the recent experiences of student testing you will want to focus on time management for the AP Physics 1 exam, in particular manage your time for free response questions (FRQs). You will want to start planning your time strategy by reviewing both sections first. In reviewing the FRQ, note the amount of points for each question, you will need to know how to allocate your time. Do note that the first time reviewing is more of a familiarization method than a planning method. You don't want to spend too much time on any one question in the first round. When you read the FRQ carefully consider it and underline any important information. After you have read the FRQ you will want to work through the answers step wise and keeping your work looking clear. Remember, if you demonstrated the correct processes but simply got the final answer wrong, you can receive partial credit. Always watch the time. If you are stuck on a question, move on and return to it if time allows. Practicing time situation tests of the AP exams can give you the skill to monitor your pacing and make your test day less stressful.

Review Checklist

It will really help to look again at general topics (Newtonian mechanics, energy, conservation of momentum, circular motion, and simple harmonic motion). Think about brainstorming and just writing out the equations and the ideas in general, and then practice using the ideas in a variety of circumstances. Also, do not forget to look at all the general problem types (torque, fluids, and waves). You also want to look at units and conversions, vector components, and free-body diagrams.
