Osprey


Overview

The osprey (Pandion haliaetus), also called the sea hawk, river hawk, or fish hawk, is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey with a cosmopolitan range. It is a large raptor, reaching more than 60 cm (24 in) in length and 180 cm (71 in) across the wings.

Habitat and Distribution

The osprey can be found near bodies of water across the world, including North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Their diet consists almost exclusively of fish, which they catch with their sharp talons.
